Sometimes specific encoding settings such as 10-bit recording are only available in one or the other of the container formats. Sometimes the camera uses advanced high compression in MP4 to preserve quality while using lower compression and lower quality in MOV files in an attempt to make the file "easier to edit" on PCs. Most cameras I've seen have a number of discrete recording settings and often the encoding parameters such as bitrate, profile level, etc. He was asking about whether he should use MOV or MP4 when recording on his camera.Īnd the answer to that is that it depends on the encoding settings that camera uses in those modes.
